Adoption Trip Summary

These are the updates from our private facebook adoption group that were posted as we were in Ukraine on our pick up trip.

December 9, 2014
Prayers for their passports to be ready by the 30th or we run into the Ukrainian holidays and the kids will be stuck until the middle/end of January.

December 18, 2014
Ready set go!
The paper chase begins, now!
Arrived safely last night.

December 19, 2014
Two birth certificates done and one tax number. Passports start on Monday!

December 22, 2014
Today we got word that we have Sasha's Ukrainian passport, he was driven to Dnipropetrovsk city to finish the paperwork for his new passport. We could possibly have that Friday!!
Sarah's city is taking longer to do everything, we are still hoping to have her tax id number on Friday. All of her passport paperwork is finished, so we will just need to add her tax number and then that will be done. We are still pushing it a bit to get hers by the end of the month, but we are doing everything we can.

December 25, 2014
Most of you know that I got Sarah, tonight! Totally unplanned, but we had to make a decision and we decided to hope for the best. We need her passport by Tuesday night, in order to bring both kiddos home Wednesday or Thursday. Otherwise, it could be two more weeks until we bring Sarah home, due to Ukraine shutting down for their holiday. There is also the possibility of them working two days in the middle of the holiday, which means we could grab the passport then. Everything else will be finished Wednesday, we just need the passport. Please pray for a Christmas miracle!

December 26, 2014
Sarah went to sleep beautifully last night at 10. But, she woke up at 330 and has yet to sleep! I am very tired to say the least. We took an early bus to KR and ran around for paperwork. I did get to see a little bit of the kids Christmas performance at the orphanage, but it was quite accidental and I did watch Sasha say a poem. This was an older group of kids and they were having great fun.
In an hour we head out to pick up Sasha, we will hang out for a bit and then we will be put on the overnight train to Kiev. We are done with our in region work and will now reside in Kiev until we have Sarah's passport. Our facilitator is picking up Sasha's passport right now and we have our embassy appointment on Monday morning.
Please pray that we have that passport!

Happy Gotcha Day!!
It was tough to take pictures while holding Sarah. I was all by myself except the driver.

December 27, 2014
Hmm, a child that can't play.
Really? It looks like she is doing a pretty good job of it to me.

It has been a crazy couple of days.
Sarah seems to enjoy being fed. She doesn't seem as nervous as she was initially to be out of her normal routine. I will attempt a first bath here, soon. A pretty big milestone, she is relaxing a little when I change her diaper. She was initially very terrified.
Sasha talks on his phone a lot , but he doesn't have a charger, so that will end soon.
He also likes music and messed up the tv, but I think he reset it.
Jason will arrive Sunday afternoon to help out. Almost done! We just need that passport!

December 28, 2014
And for the record, I was noticing a difference in her face and I finally figured out, her lips are no longer chapped and dehydrated. The skin on her cheeks looks a little different, too.
And I think she liked the warm bath water, but was definitely anticipating something bad happening. :(
Poor kids, why do the nannies have to be so rough, why can't they be fast and gentle?

Lookie lookie, she is holding it, not inhaling it. Must still be full from lunch. Take all the time you want, it is all yours!

December 29, 2014
8 kilos= 17.6 pounds fully clothed with tights and a sweater. After three and a half days of being fed by me....

and after eating two 8 oz bottles of baby food right before being weighed. Why? Why was she not worthy of nutrition?

Friends, this needs to stop and each of us needs to make it stop.

December 30, 2014
Post 1
We have Sasha's passport. Working on the last online document, but the embassy is having technical issues.
Hoping to have our last embassy appointment tomorrow.
We just got word that Sarah's passport has been issued and sent to Dnipropetrovsk for its stamp and signature, BUT it is caught in a snowstorm! We might have it in the morning, if the snow lets up!!!

Post 2
The online document page is back up, Sasha's is submitted. Sarah's is completed except for her passport number, issue/expiration date. We are scheduled to be at the embassy anytime tomorrow. If the computers are all up and running we can get the visas right away!!!
And travel!!!!
We need Sarah's passport in the am!!!
Post 3

SHE DID IT!!!! Our facilitator did it!!! Sarah's passport has been signed and stamped, it will be on the overnight train and we will have it in our hands tomorrow morning. Off to the embassy after that.
As long there are no more computer issues, we will have their Visas the same day!

December 31, 2014
Passport, visas, plane tickets and boarding passes.
We are coming home and I cannot believe it actually happened!!!

Life Changing

Seeing the expression on his face when he realizes why you are here.

Watching him fight the tears and feelings of disbelief as he looks at pictures of your family and his new reality refreshes its impression on his young mind.

Seeing the tremor of excitement shake his body when each beloved caregiver passes by with a joyful smile and stops for a consensual hug.

The stunned look of, "Is this really real?" intertwined with pure happiness.

All the uncertainty of the past year falls away as a young boy is given hope and the love that he deserves.

Next Up!!!

I have never been so excited to see a doll!!! Silliness? Maybe, but it's one of those little things that make families happy when they are in country.

We have met Sutter and Monday morning we have our DAP appointment for our second referral of Ariel!

Yes, God has provided the way for us to move forward, for a little girl that is indeed a princess of The One True King!

We leave tomorrow for our children's country and our first appointment is on Wednesday.
We will meet #1 on Friday and #2 the next week.

We are still short on funds, but have enough for the first trip.
I am thinking about bringing home some chocolate to use as a fundraiser.

Anyone interested?

While We Wait...

So, we had all of our paperwork done for our Dossier and we were waiting on our USCIS approval, when we finally received approval, we had to redo one of our medicals. Then it had to be redone for various errors. That was finished and we discovered that we had to be submitted by the following Thursday or else another document would need to be redone. We weren't submitted and so I am currently awaiting a new set of marriage certificates. The life of Dossier preparation...

We decided a week before the Reece's Rainbow Reunion that we would like to go, but the campground was booked solid. I soon received a message that there was a cabin available for the two nights we wanted to go. YAY!!! One of the only pictures of me posted publicly beside our fabulous stateside coordinator Nancy.

This was the adorable little cabin that we stayed in that converted our family from tent campers to cabin campers!

It was a fabulous weekend, way too short, but I am so glad that we got to go and connect with other families who have made this same journey.

Now onto finishing house projects in preparation for adding a few blessings to our family!
This next weekend we have a yard sale adoption fundraiser.
Lots of work to be done!

Thirty-One Gifts Fundraiser!

We have a Thirty-One Gifts fundraiser starting tomorrow and running until the 14th.
(This has been extended until Wednesday, April 23.)

We have a lot of money to still raise and likely only a few weeks in which to do it!

Friday, March 28, 2014

We are officially approved for two children.
We have not identified the second one, as of yet.
We are still working on our puzzle fundraiser. Pieces are $10 each, donate to our Reece's Rainbow account and let me know how many pieces you purchased. I will write your name on them.
When the puzzle is finished, we will frame it in a double glass frame, so that we can be reminded of who helped us bring our children home.

I put up  a thermometer to keep track of our fundraising progress.
These numbers reflect what we will need to bring home three children. Two from the same orphanage and one from a different orphanage, same region.

The total is minus an available child specific grant that is available to us.
Once we identify the other two children, I will make needed adjustments to the thermometer.

Thank you for helping to bring our boy home!

Here we are in a new year and on a new adventure.

We are almost finished with our homestudy and have a lot of our Dossier in process.

USCIS was sent in right after we committed to Sutter, as he turns 16 in February.

Everything is going great, except fundraising.

We have the calendars still available.

We also have a t-shirt fundraiser going on, it ends February 5

We are hoping to add 2-3 kiddos, depending on what we are approved for...and NO, I don't need suggestions as I have a list of at least 10 already. :)

Have a Great Day!

There are so many children who need advocates and I am so busy with family life and our own adoption, but for this ONE, I can not be silent.

You see, many years ago on a March 13th, I lost a most untreasured treasure. I lost my dad, sure, he had issues, but when he could focus on being a dad, he was amazing and the thing I miss the most, is that he loved me, not because of my school grades or what I had acomplished, not because of my talents, but simply...because I was HIS. That's it, I was his and he loved me. I was 16 on that day, that day he left forever.

March 13, 2014, will be 24 years, since that day.

March 13, 2014, THIS little girl, this most untreasured treasure will be lost unless a mommy and a daddy claim her as their own. Unless they love her, not because of her grades or her acomplishments or talents, but simply because she is their daughter.
On that day, Salome will be 16.

Please, someone see her, love her.
